John is a versatile senior lawyer with extensive experience in and passion for the not-for-profit sector. He possesses a wealth of experience in advising and consulting to association boards, CEOs and executives and has a passion for helping not-for-profit associations develop appropriate governance frameworks, infrastructure and processes to meet regulatory approval and community expectations and to fulfil their social mission.
Prior to his role at Birchgrove legal, John worked in roles including as a Senior Lawyer for the NSW Attorney General’s Department in the Office of the Protective Commission & Public Guardian, in wealth management at a large financial institution and as Head of the legal function of a leading professional association for financial advisers. He has consulted to not-for-profit professional associations, regulators, educational institutions, and a Big-4 accounting firm on professional ethics and compliance for financial advisers.
John brings leadership experience and expertise in areas including not-for profit association governance, professionalisation strategies, industry codes of ethics, regulatory strategy, professional disciplinary schemes, risk and compliance, preparing and amending association constitutions, board charters, conflicts of interests policies, risk management strategies, compliance plans and developing professional standards schemes.
He is also a voluntary member of the NSW Law Society’s Disclosure Committee.
